Haiti - Environment : 155 earthquakes recorded in the South (November 2021)

The monthly bulletin, for the month of November 2021 from the Technical Unit of Seismology (UTS) of the Bureau of Mines and Energy (UTS-BME), indicates that the national and regional seismological networks (Ayiti-earthquakes, UTS-BME, RD-OSPL-Loyola) recorded 155 earthquakes between 1.5 and 5.1 of magnitude on the Richter scale (very minor to moderate) across the country, i.e. 36 fewer earthquakes than the 191 recorded in October (-18.8%)

The 3 most affected departments (148 earthquakes, 95.45%) are :

Grand'Anse: 80 earthquakes (51.6%);

Nippes: 55 earthquakes (35.5%);

South: 13 earthquakes (8.4%).

Let's recall that these three departments were the most affected by the devastating earthquake https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34681-haiti-earthquake-latest-assessment-of-civil-protection.html of August 14 of 7.2 on the Richter scale https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34479-haiti-flash-magnitude-72-earthquake-in-the-nippes.html

Most of the earthquakes recorded in Grand'Anse were located at sea around the North Grand'Anse-Nippes fault and those coming from Nippes were probably aftershocks of the August 14 earthquake whose epicenter was located 20km south of Petit Trou de Nippes

Most earthquakes have occurred at sea, posing a tsunami risk when conditions are met.

The November earthquakes were few deep and occurred at a depth of less than 25km.
