The Episcopal Conference of Haiti, in its Christmas message, expresses its concerns in the face of the deep economic, political and security crisis that Haiti is going through and calls on the local authorities to assume their responsibilities and the international community not to abandon the Haitian people.

"We cannot remain indifferent to the tragic events of these last months", affirm the bishops while calling once again the local political leaders and the international community. "Such a situation of socio-economic and political chaos should it not challenge the conscience of those who have responsibilities" at the local and international level, they declare, saying they are alarmed by" a catastrophic context which shows no sign of slowing down."

The bishops are calling for a moral and patriotic boost and claim to observe acts of banditry which are more and more frequent in the country. They join in the grief of all those who are victims of violence of all kinds and say they pray for the innocent people who have been shot by armed groups.
