At the end of this trying year and on the occasion of the 218th anniversary of Haiti's independence (January 1st, 2022), Fritz Dorvilier, Consul General of Haiti in Montreal has delivered a message to the Haitian community that we invite you to to read :

Message from Consul Dorvilier :

"Dear compatriots of Quebec,

The year 2021 has brought us a lot of misfortune.

Our economy has deteriorated sharply, which has further plunged the majority of the population into the crucible of poverty.

Our democratically elected President, HE Mr. Jovenel Moïse, was brutally assassinated in his private residence https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34162-haiti-flash-president-jovenel-moise-assassinated-by-mercenaries-official-updated-7am-+-video.html, leaving the people in disarray.

Other accidents, added to the terror of insecurity, have daily mourned Haitian families.

Nevertheless, as we know, we are a people who have always shown courage and resilience in the face of adversity. We will therefore be able to weather these catastrophes.

We now need to think about and build a better future while making the present liveable. With this in mind, we must draw patriotic fraternity and energy from the gesture of 1804 whose 218th anniversary we proudly commemorate on January 1, 2022.
