Thursday, February 27 at the Karibe hotel in the presence of representatives of political parties, parliamentarians, civil society actors, the Citizen Observatory for the Institutionalization of Democracy (OCID) presented the results of a "National Survey of People's Concerns and Perceptions of Democratic Values ​​and Institutions" made possible with technical assistance from the National Institute for Democracy (NDI) and financial support from the United States Agency for Democracy International Development (USAID-Haiti)

After its 2015 survey, the OCID undertook to conduct a new national survey in October 2021. The results of this new OCID survey on the major concerns of the Haitian people and their perceptions of democracy have enabled to highlight a political, economic, social and security panorama, to say the least, disconcerting and a portrait of the situation of the country not very rosy.

Excerpts from the investigation report:

• 62.2% of respondents believe that insecurity (kidnapping and sequestration, proliferation of gangs, banditry, violence, etc.) is the biggest problem facing the country, compared to 9% in 2015;

• 9% of respondents are not concerned about political issues (instability, absence of government, failure to hold elections, etc.);

• The Haitian population has little or no confidence in the institutions of 95% of the Haitian population has no confidence or little confidence in Parliament, political parties and local authorities; 90% for the CEP; 86% for Justice and the Media; 81% for the Police; 80% for the Presidency (executive power) and NGOs;

• 79% say they have no interest in political issues;

• 46% intend to vote in 2022 compared to 64% in 2015;

• 77.1% of respondents opt for economic development over democracy;

• 82.4% of them are waiting for the first opportunity to leave the country;
