The passage of a cold front, located Monday, January 31 in the morning in the North of the Dominican Republic, has been causing heavy rains for more than 36 hours in Haiti which have caused the flooding of several rivers, causing flooding in at least 13 municipalities in the North, Northeast, and Nippes. The department of the Center is also affected.

Civil Protection reported several flooded houses and dozens of families forced to evacuate their homes...

In Cap-Haitien, several neighborhoods near the Haut du Cap river are flooded. Part of the historic city center is flooded. Trees were also uprooted by violent gusts of wind on Place d'Armes, Bel-Air and Petite-Anse.

Floods are recorded in Limonade (Bois-de-Lance), Plaine du Nord (Morne-Rouge, Bois Caïman), Acul du Nord (first section), Milot (Lory), Grande-Rivière-du-Nord (Nan Dumez) and Bahon, in this commune, gardens are destroyed.

Also in the North, several rivers are in flood, including the large North River, the three rivers and the Port-Margot River, while the rains continue, raising fears of other floods.

In the North-East, in Ferrier, the main road is damaged following the collapse of the bridge at the North-West entrance to this town. The Caracol power plant is also under water, the damage assessment is underway in the Park, more than 206 houses in the districts of Cahess, Village Emmanuel, Bas Saline and Haute Terre are flooded. Significant damage was also recorded in the communes of Ouanaminthe, Fort-Liberté and Trou du Nord.

In the Nippes department, part of Anse à Veau is flooded. In Rouck, 3rd section of this commune, there are more than 157 flooded houses. Volunteers from the Baradères communal civil protection committee have identified 153 flooded houses in the city center. In the mountainous areas of this municipality, the volunteers facilitated the movement of a group of residents who had found refuge in a secure building in the city center. In total, more than 310 houses have been affected by the latest bad weather, according to the partial assessment of the damage in the Nippes.

The General Directorate of Civil Protection asks the inhabitants of flood-prone areas and exposed to strong winds to take the necessary precautions to protect themselves and their loved ones and, above all, not to cross flooded rivers under any circumstances.
