Haiti - Religion : Mgr. Chibly Langlois, new Bishop of Les Cayes

The Holy Father [Pope Benedict XVI] has named yesterday, Mgr. Chibly Langlois, which was until now the Bishop of Fort-Liberté, as new bishop of the Diocese of Les Cayes in Haiti. The solidity of his faith, his morals, his piety, his zeal, his wisdom, his prudence and his human virtues extensively tested, are added to his great competence, his eloquence and other qualities.

Mgr. Langlois was born November 29, 1958 in the Valley district of Jacmel, Department of the Southeast. He entered to the Grand Séminaire Notre-Dame of Port-au-Princein 1985, where he took courses in philosophy and theology. He was ordained Sept. 22, 1991.

From 1991 to 1994 he was vicar of the Cathedral of Jacmel and Director of the service diocesan pastoral of catechesis from 1993 to 1994.

From 1994 to 1996 he studied and obtained a degree in pastoral theology at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome.

In 1996 he became administrator of the diocesan catechetical and pastoral formation.

n 1999, he was assigned to the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception of the city "Des Oranger" to Jacmel and was professor of pastoral theology at the Grand Séminaire Notre-Dame to Turgeau.

In 2000 Mgr. Chibly Langlois, teaches at the Diocesan Institute for Education and human promotion of Jacmel.

Elected Bishop of Fort-Liberté [by Pope John Paul II] on April 8, 2004, Mgr Chibly Langlois was consecrated on June 6 of the same year.
