Haiti - Economy : Price control in the supermarkets of Pétion-ville
In order to protect consumers from the spectacular increase in the prices of certain products, the Department of Internal Trade (DCI) of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry carried out inspection visits this week to almost all the supermarkets in the municipality of Pétion-ville.
During these inspections, DCI inspectors carefully checked the price of a few basic necessities. For products such as spaghetti, cheese, bread, ground meat, tomato sauce, cod and yogurt, the price difference varied between 10 to 25 Gourdes from one market to another, while for other products such as : cereals Corn flakes, egg, milk, salt, juice and sugar, the difference between the markets was much higher.
The Ministry took note of the findings and promised that decisions will be taken in the coming days to better regulate the market and control all forms of abuse and unfair competition.
