Haiti - Economy : Agreement between the Association of Tradesmen of Santiago and the Consulate General of Haiti for the benefit of Haitians

Sandy Filpo President of the Association of Tradesmen and Industrialists of Santiago (ACIS) and James Jacques, Consul of Haiti in Santiago signed an institutional partnership agreement, to stimulate the regularization of Haitian workers so that they can obtain a Dominican identity card (Cédula).

The Haitian authorities estimate at 3,000 the number of Haitians operating a commercial activity in the city of Santiago alone.

The two parties to the agreement undertake to protect and strengthen the mechanisms that ensure the security of commercial relations between the companies of the two countries, stressing that this commitment is of "prudence and diligence".

ACIS is committed to cooperating in the management of business visas of at least one year, performing due diligence management when requested by the Consulate for a Haitian citizen with an interest in doing business.

For its part, the Haitian Consulate undertakes to cooperate in the management of business and work visas and relevant Haitian documents that Cibao's business entities may require for Haitian workers, exercising due diligence when requested by the through ACIS.

Finally, the agreement recognizes the value of collaboration, the sense of reciprocity and the strengthening of institutional relations as essential factors for the economic, commercial and industrial growth of Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
