Haiti - Crisis : Scarcity of fuel, version of Association of Petroleum Professionals

Following the accusations making the oil companies responsible for the scarcity of fuel in Haiti, the Association of Petroleum Professionals (APPE) comes out of its silence to defend its members and explain the real causes of this crisis, of which the oil companies are foreign and victims...

The APPE underlines in a note dated June 17, that today, the purchase prices of fuels on the world market have more than doubled since December 2021 and that the oil companies therefore need twice as many dollars to buy the same amount of fuel as before.

In addition, the insufficient availability of US dollars on the local market forces oil companies to import smaller quantities than usual.

Regarding the price of fuel, the APPE recalls that the Government is the only one who can decide on an adjustment of fuel prices at the pump and that it does not depend on the oil companies.

As for the relative scarcity of fuel on the market, the Association deplores a flourishing black market supplied by certain unscrupulous service stations, which claim to have no more fuel...

To this is added, even if not included in the note, the delay that the Government is taking in reimbursing the pump subsidy to the oil companies, a subsidy that they must assume in the meantime, which negatively affects their cash flow.
