Haiti - FLASH : The Minister forces 10 gas stations to reopen and closes 2 others

Monday, July 18, 2022, following the Ministry's note on speculation and the illicit sale of fuel in gallonshttps://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-37159-icihaiti-justice-the-ministry-of-commerce-threatens-to-close-rebel-gas-stations.html Ricardin Saint-Jean, the Minister of Trade and Industry at the head of a delegation of inspectors accompanied by a Justice of the Peace and the Commissioner of government carried out an inspection tour of gas stations in Pétion-ville and on the Route de Frères.

During these inspections, 10 gas stations which were closed allegedly for lack of fuel were forced by law to reopen their petrol pumps after the inspectors measured with gauges the fuel tanks of the service stations which still contained several thousands of gallons of fuel.

The seals were put on two service stations suspected of selling by the gallon to supply the black market. A gas station attendant was arrested and taken into custody at the Pétion-ville police station.

In order to avoid speculation by creating a false fuel shortage and to facilitate the supply of fuel to the population at the prices set by the State, the Ministry intends to increase its gas station control operations by applying all the rigor of the law against those who disobey the law.
