Friday August 26, 2022, the former Substitute Commissioner of the Government of Saint Marc, Me Verissaint Souverain, placed on leave without pay and under arrest warrant since last July 21, was arrested by agents of the Office of Financial and Economic Affairs (BAFE) of the Central Directorate of Judicial Police (DCPJ) when he was about to appear to the American Consulate.

Me Verissaint Souverain is accused of illicit enrichment, corruption, money laundering, forfeiture and complicity in criminal association following his decision to order the illegal release of Frenot Thechelot, an active member of the "Baz gran grif" gang composed of dangerous heavily armed criminals operating in Savien and "Nan Palmis" (Dept. Artibonite).

Let's recall that Frenot Thechelot had been arrested on July 2nd by the National Police of Haiti (PNH) in possession of stolen goods, accused of embezzlement of a truck of goods and association of criminals, he had benefited from a release order signed by Me Souverain on July 18, 2022.

Currently, the former Deputy Commissioner of the Government of Saint Marc, Me Verissaint Souverain is in custody at the DCPJ for the follow-up to the procedure.
