Haiti - Justice : The Public Prosecutor's Office of PAP, strikes a blow at the fuel black market

Over the past weekend, Me Jacques Lafontant, the Government Commissioner at the Court of First Instance (TPI) of Port-au-Prince in collaboration with the Departmental Directorate of the West Police (DDO) accompanied by about thirty of police officers and three justices of the peace from the communes of Pétion-Ville, Port-au-Prince and Delmas, carried out a vast operation against the illegal sale of fuel

This operation took place in Delmas, Lalue, Canapé-Vert, Bois-Verna, Downtown, Delmas 48, Delmas 34 and Kenscoff.

Me Jacques Lafontant in a summary report indicated that this operation had allowed the seizure of about forty barrels of fuel, including 31 in Kenscoff where an individual was arrested.

A large illegal fuel sales site on the airport road which included a dozen tank trucks filled with fuel was sealed and 2 individuals arrested. Many other containers filled with fuel were also seized during this operation.

In addition, on Tuesday August 29, Me Jacques Lafontant declared on a radio station in the capital that he had been able to observe, in the town of Carrefour, during an intervention carried out with the police, that agents of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) were implicated in the illicit sale of fuel. He said he informed the high command of this situation and asked that severe measures be taken against these police officers who tarnish the image of the police institution.
