The "Global Peace Index" (GPI) ranks the countries of the world according to their degree of pacifism. This ranking is established by the magazine "The Economist" and a jury of international experts from peace institutes or "think tanks", as well as the "Center for Peace and Conflict Studies" of the University of Sydney in Australia.

In 2022, Haiti experienced a deterioration in Peace with a score of 2.254*, falling 2 places among Central American and Caribbean countries (#9), 7 places globally (115th out of 163 countries), and ranking last as the least peaceful country in the Caribbean.

Haiti recorded the largest deterioration in Peace in the region and the fifth largest deterioration in the 2022 IPG, with falls in Peace in the areas of security and the increased intensity of internal conflicts and the growing number deaths attributable to these conflicts. Haiti has seen a sharp increase in violence, particularly since the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse in July 2021. Gang-related violence continues to grow in Haiti, gang leaders continue to exercise power over territories under their control. control and challenge the rule of law.
