On Wednesday, December 15, 2022, Harvard University in the United States announced the appointment (among more than 600 applications) of the American Claudine Gay, daughter of Haitian immigrants, as 30th President of Harvard University in the United States.

Claudine Gay, will take office on July 2023 and will be the first black woman to head this University.

Reacting to this news, the Prime Minister a.i. Ariel Henry Government of Haiti, Ariel Henry declared "It is with joy and immense pride that I learned of the appointment of Professor Claudine Gay, of Haitian origin, as President of the prestigious Harvard University. I send him my warmest and warmest congratulations, and I wish him much success in his new role."

Ms. Gay was born in New York and attended Phillips Exeter Academy, then studied economics at Stanford University, and received the Anna Laura Myers Prize for best undergraduate thesis in economics. She graduated in 1992. Subsequently, she earned her doctorate from Harvard in 1998, winning the university's Toppan Prize for best thesis in political science.

Claudine Gay is a political scientist and university administrator. She is the Wilbur A. Cowett Professor of Government and African and African American Studies at Harvard and Dean of the Edgerley Family of Harvard College of Arts and Sciences (2018). She is Vice President of the Midwest Political Science Association.

Ms. Gay's research focuses on American political behavior, including voter turnout and the politics of race and identity.

Has Haitian nationality by origin, any individual born of a Haitian father or a Haitian mother who themselves were born Haitians and had never renounced their nationality at the time of birth. Renunciation of nationality means an official declaration before a Haitian court, in accordance with the law.
