The Apostolic Nunciature in Haiti, in agreement with the Archdiocese of Port-au-Prince organized Saturday, January 7, 2023 at the Saint-Pierre church in Pétion-ville, a requiem mass in memory of Pope Benedict XVI (deceased on 31 December 2022 at the age of 95 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-38501-haiti-news-zapping.html ), in the presence of Prime Minister a.i. Ariel Henry and several personalities.

In his speech for the occasion, the Head of Government declared "The Haitian people join my voice and that of my government in expressing their deep sadness on the occasion of this departure which affects the Christian community" saluting "the departure of a great man of history, an outstanding pedagogue, an eminent intellectual and a great defender of universal moral values."

"[...] His passing is a great loss for the Catholic Church and for all Christians around the world. I reiterate to His Holiness Pope Francis, to His Excellency the Apostolic Nuncio, to the entire ecclesial community of Rome, to the Episcopal Conference of Bishops of Haiti, to the Catholic faithful throughout the world, especially those in our country, my deep sympathies.é
