Haiti - Montreal/Jacmel : 5th edition of the Black Community Theater Festival

The Creole Theater Compagnie "Théâtre Créole" is preparing to land in Montreal with an ambitious 5th edition of the Black Community Theater Festival, which will take place from February 26 to March 26, 2023, in Montreal and also in Jacmel in Haiti around the theme "A theater reflecting of diversity".

The guest of honor of this Festival will be the talented Djennie Laguerre, actress, storyteller, dancer and teacher of Haitian origin also known as "Madame Bonheur".

Several activities are planned to make this edition unforgettable, including :

"Regard ailleurs" (Looking Away) :

An itinerant activity, a prospecting tour in Afro-descendant countries and in black communities for artistic exchanges around the theater in Jacmel.

"Absolument Femmes" (Absolutely Women) :

In one day, the Creole Theater Compagnie offers three cultural celebrations: exhibition in the morning, talk in the afternoon and show in the early evening. This formula will make it possible to highlight a great diversity of Afro-descendant cultural workers. The participants will thus be able to forge links in diversity, in a space designed by and to celebrate women, and share their life skills and know-how.

Symposium on Inclusive Theater in Quebec :

This symposium will be an opportunity to engage in candid discussions about theatre, the invisibility of black artists in the field, and the systemic barriers that impede their professional advancement. Its objective will be to document the current situation of diversity artists.

We invite you to discover a dozen vibrant shows by black artists from various artistic disciplines, mainly theater. Let's not forget to mention the tribute show to the emblematic Haitian group Zèklè, which will take place on March 25 at Espace le vrai monde.
