Haiti - FLASH : The ULCC requests legal proceedings against 7 former Senators

On Friday March 3rd, 2023, the Anti-Corruption Unit (ULCC) transmitted the files of 7 former senators to the public prosecutor's offices in their respective jurisdictions and requested the initiation of public action against them.

In addition, the ULCC demands that be inserted in the convening to the correctional officer to intervene, the total prohibition to exercise their civil, political and family rights, particularly with regard to the right to vote and to be elected to the eligibility, for a period of 5 years, for non-compliance with the provisions relating to the declaration of assets of the anti-corruption law which exposes you to the penalties provided for in articles 18 of the law of February 12, 2008 and 28 of the Haitian Penal Code.

The ULCC also announced that it had sent 9 new investigation reports on proven facts of corruption to the competent Government Commissioners for the necessary follow-up. This makes a total of 29 files handed over to the courts in the two-year period.

Hans Joseph the Director General of the ULCC declared "I submitted 9 investigation reports requesting the criminal prosecution of several political figures and public officials for acts of corruption. I expect justice to react as soon as possible to put an end to this unacceptable impunity. »
