Haiti - Canada : $10 million to strengthen the Police Academy

On Wednesday March 29, 2023, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Ministry of Planning, the Ministry of Justice and the Embassy of Canada in Haiti, on a project to support the strengthening of the Police Academy, to respond to the crisis facing the country.

In his speech, Ricard Pierre, Minister of Planning thanked the Canadian administration for its support. According to the Minister, an envelope of 10 million Canadian dollars is planned for this project for the period from 2022 to 2027. Stating that these funds will be used to create additional modules in crisis management, securing the facilities of the Academy, the increase in the institution's training capacities and the rehabilitation and development of a decentralized campus.

Emmelie Prophète Milce, Minister of Justice and Public Security, agreed, explaining that the signing of such a protocol could help enormously to improve the security situation in Haiti, which says it is counting on the continuity Canada's support for the Haitian state.

For his part, the Ambassador of Canada to Haiti, Sébastien Carrière welcomed the commitment of the Haitian authorities within the framework of the projects signed between the two countries, to seek to redress the situation in Haiti.

The diplomat said he was counting on the frank collaboration of the Haitian authorities and reiterated the commitment of the Canadian administration alongside Haiti to help pull the country out of the abyss, particularly in terms of the actions to be taken to improve security conditions.
