Haiti - Politic : The Prime Minister, Henry, met with the Secretary General of the UN

On Saturday July 1st, 2023, the Prime Minister, a.i. Ariel Henry, accompanied by two Ministers of his Government and his chief of staff, received at his official residence, the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres on a visit to few hours in Haiti.

Ariel Henry presented to the appreciation of the Secretary General of the UN, the situation in Haiti. The discussions focused, among other things, on insecurity, the humanitarian crisis, cholera, food insecurity and the general elections.

Regarding the political situation in the country, the Head of Government made it clear that he had begun consultations with political actors and civil society, with a view to broadening the national consensus.

Stressing the importance of the involvement of the UN for the security stability of the country, Henry also reiterated the determination of the Government team to set in motion the electoral process in order to allow the people to decide, in the near future, the choice of its representatives at different levels of elective positions.

The Secretary General presented his visit as "a visit of solidarity made with humility". He stressed that the United Nations will do everything possible so that Haiti can recover and reiterated its support for the immediate deployment of an international force to assist the National Police of Haiti.
