Haiti - Politic : The Jamaican PM urged the EU to provide financial assistance to Haiti

Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness, during the meeting of the 3rd Summit of the European Union and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (EU-CELAC), held in Brussels, urged EU States to seriously consider offering financial assistance to Haiti.

Holness, during his intervention, underlined the aggravating problems which concern the Haitian population. He highlighted recent natural hazards such as the earthquake and floods, combined with the ongoing political and economic unrest that have further weighed on Haitian citizens.

He further pointed out that women and girls are more vulnerable to gang violence and that there has been a growing sense of insecurity.

He recalled that António Guterres, the UN Secretary General had indicated that the financial needs of the United Nations Humanitarian Response Plan for 2023 for Haiti, whose objective is to collect 720 million US dollars, has so far only been able to collect 23% of the amount required...
