Haiti - Politic : Special meeting on Haiti of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee

Democratic Senator Bob Menéndez, Chairman of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, called the committee members for a special meeting, during which the question of Haiti will be analyzed in depth and the next steps for a collective response will be sought.

Spokesperson for the Dominican Presidency, Homero Figueroa, said in a statement that the Commission meeting is scheduled for Thursday, July 27, 2023, at 10 a.m. In the same press release he reported on the results of the meeting of Wednesday, July 19 between a Dominican delegation sent by President Abinader and Menéndez, stressing "The meeting allowed a fruitful exchange of ideas and perspectives, stressing the importance of international collaboration to face the challenges that the crisis in Haiti poses to the Dominican Republic and to the region as a whole."

The official US Senate website confirmed Thursday's meeting, which will focus specifically on reviewing the situation in the Western Hemisphere, with an emphasis on the crisis in Haiti and steps the international community can implement to bring support and stability to the region.

"Next Thursday's meeting in the United States Senate should be an important step towards a joint and effective response to the situation in Haiti and its implications for the stability and development of the Western Hemisphere," indicates a note published by the Dominican Presidency.
