Haiti - Agriculture : Making national agricultural production a reality

The Lorquet Foundation for a New Haiti (FOLONHA), congratulates the Haitian people for the new momentum demonstrated to make national agricultural production a reality. It supports firstly the inhabitants of Ouanaminthe for their initiative to irrigate and strengthen agriculture in the North-East region, particularly the Maribaroux plain.

The Foundation also applauds the compatriots of other localities of the country who have decided to follow this example with a view to a return to agriculture, in particular the population of Port-Margot, that of the South department and that of Maury, 3rd rural section of Désarmes in the commune of Verrettes who, since October 14, have been inspired by the initiative of the inhabitants of Ouanaminthe to rehabilitate a 50-year-old canal. The construction of this irrigation system began under the government of President Dumarsais Estimé but was never completed. This canal must be supplied with water from the Artibonite River passing through the town of Maury to Marin located approximately 30 kilometers away.

Like the members of the diaspora, natives of Desarmes, and the organization "Tèt Ansanm pou yon Dezam Miyò" (TAPYDEM), FOLONHA encourages farmers from the 571 communal sections of the country to follow this good example with a view to rehabilitate all the canals dating from the colonial era and which had made Haiti an essentially agricultural country to the point of feeding a good part of the countries of Europe.

"May Haiti become prosperous again !"
