In addition, Haiti replaced Honduras as the main country of origin of petitioners before the Mexican Commission for Refugee Assistance (COMAR), with 44,239, more than double the 17,220 requests from Haiti in 2022.

This means that more than one in three asylum requests out of the 140,982 asylum requests (record number) received by Mexico in 2023 came from Haitians.
