Haiti - Justice : «Yonyon” the former leader of the «400 Mawozo” gang sentenced to 35 years in prison 25/06/2024 09:48:32
Monday June 24, 2024, an American judge sentenced Germine Joly (32 years old), alias "yonyon" former leader of the powerful Haitian gang "400 Mawozo", who had pleaded guilty at the end of January 2024 to 48 counts https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-41565-haiti-usa-yonyon-the-former-leader-of-the-400-mawozo-gang-pleads-guilty-to-48-charges.html for arms trafficking and laundering of ransoms linked to the 17 American missionaries including 5 children, from the American "Christian Aid Ministries" kidnapped in October 2021, was sentenced by a federal court in Washington to 35 years in prison Let's recall that Joly, in a letter addressed to United States District Judge John D. Bates, before his sentencing, had asked for forgiveness and implored the judge's clemency. Recall that federal prosecutors were seeking a life sentence for facilitating the purchase and smuggling of high-powered weapons from Florida to Haiti. Joly's lawyers argued that he should not receive more than 17 years in prison... Let's recall that his former American girlfriend Eliande Tunis (46) from Pompano Beach, Florida, was sentenced earlier this month to 12.5 years in prison. She pleaded guilty at the end of January to the same charges brought against Joly. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-35213-haiti-flash2-haitians-arrested-in-florida-supplied-with-weapons-the-gang-400-mawozo.html The "400 Mawozo" gang is known for kidnappings as well as drug and arms trafficking, murders, rapes and armed robberies, among others, according to a UN report.
