On the evening of Tuesday, November 15, the market of Croix-des-Bouquets a fire broke out in three balls of tissue (pèpè) and immediately spread in the section housing the goods of nearly two hundred merchants.

The fire also attacked the building in which were stored the goods in question. Fortunately it could be successfully fought by firefighters, the Civil Protection and the Minustah who came to bring relief, aid and assistance to victims. Thanks to these combined efforts, the fire could be contained in a limited area, thus causing minimal damage.

This operation was made possible by the immediate intervention of the Ministry of Interior in the person of its holder, who, warned by the Deputy of Croix des Bouquets, reacted immediately o ensure the mobilization of firefighters, Police and other intervention forces which were dispatched on the spot. Afer midnight, the Minister of Interior, of Territorial Collectivities and National Defense, Me Thierry Mayard-Paul, was still on the scene with his ministerial team and his Secretaries of State, where he ensured the smooth of operations.
