Haiti - Technology : Project to install 100,000 prepaid smart electricity meters

Efforts to improve Haiti’s fragile power grid are moving forward with a $15 million project aimed at reducing commercial and technical losses by the Electricité d’Haïti (EDH) company

The latest initiative calls for the installation of up to 100,000 smart meters associated with a prepayment system.

"ABD Smart Meter", composed of the Canadian firm Atlantic Bridge Developments and the South Korean firm Kepid Amstech, is behind the upcoming deployment and has already submitted a financing request to the IDB Investment, the private lending arm of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

The financing would include a $4 million A loan and another subordinated loan with a combined financing of $8 million, according to information from the bank.

The project would focus on Port-au-Prince and contribute to the improvement of the financial situation of EDH

The Board of the IDB Investment will examine the request next month.
