Haiti - Social : National Funeral of Frankétienne (Video)

Friday, February 28, 2025, Leslie Voltaire, the pro tempore President of the Transitional Council, along with Presidential Advisor Edgard Leblanc Fils, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, several other members of the government and other important members of Civil Society, participated in the funeral of Jean-Pierre Basilic Dantor Franck Étienne d’Argent, alias “Frankétienne” at the Saint-Pierre Church in Pétion-ville.

Bendgy Tilias, the Secretary of State for Communication, spoke on behalf of the Ministry of Culture to express his gratitude to Frankétienne, who represented a great figure in the country’s literature. "The writer is gone, but his works will remain immortal."

Marie André Étienne, Frankétienne’s widow, with whom he shared 55 years of life together, read a love letter to her husband in her speech. She also took the opportunity to share many beautiful memories that marked their life as a couple.

The officiating priest, Guerlin Chancy, for his part declared that Frankétienne was a person with a great sense of creativity and an endless commitment who had the courage to fight, in her own way, against the dictatorship and all the injustices of society.
