Haiti - FLASH : Major seizure of weapons and ammunition in the DR, a major blow for gangs

On Tuesday, March 4th, 2025, agents of the Directorate General of Customs (DGA) in collaboration with the Public Prosecutor's Office, discovered at the port of Haina in the Dominican Republic, during the inspection of a container in transit, coming from Miami (Florida) to its final destination of Haiti, a large quantity of weapons and ammunition.

36,000 rounds of ammunition of different calibers, 18 assault rifle magazines, 13 9-millimeter magazines, a 50-caliber rifle magazine, a silencer, as well as 25 firearms: a 50 mm Barrett sniper rifle, 17 7.62 caliber rifles, a 9-caliber rifle, five 9 mm Glock pistols and an Uzi submachine gun.

The investigation continues in coordination with the Public Prosecutor's Office, the J-2 (Intelligence Service) of the Ministry of Defense, the Office of National Security Investigations (HSI) and other security agencies, in order to identify the persons involved and to proceed in accordance with the legislation in force.

This discovery is in addition to the 37 other firearms, originating from Brooklyn, which were discovered and seized at the end of February 2025 in the same port, and which were in a container, hidden in two air compressor tanks: 30 rifles of different calibers, 6 Glock pistols, model Gen 5 caliber 9 mm and a Smith & Wesson pistol, model SD9 VE, caliber 9 mm, as well as 37 magazines for assault rifles.
