Haiti - Education : Monitoring the implementation of the «Commitment Agreement» with unions

To continue improving the quality of relations with the unions and jointly monitor the implementation of the "Commitment Agreement" signed on January 20, 2025 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-44109-haiti-education-end-of-teachersstrike.html , Augustin Antoine, the Minister of National Education, met this week with the heads of several union platforms and networks, including the National Federation of Education Unions (FENASE), the National Network of Progressive Teachers of Haiti (RENATEPH), and the Haitian Teachers' Union Platform (PSEH).

This meeting provided an opportunity for Ministry officials and the leaders of these union platforms to jointly review the implementation of this agreement. Regarding teachers who are currently in class but have not yet been appointed, the Ministry reports that 4,793 applications have already been processed.

For teachers appointed but not yet paid, the Ministry's Personnel Management Directorate has reviewed 700 applications, but only 200 have been processed. These 200 teachers should receive their checks soon. Due diligence is underway for the remaining 200.

Regarding the debit card issue, the Ministry has already sent a letter to the National Credit Bank to advance the administrative procedures and establish the financial mechanism that should facilitate this process.

Regarding trainee teachers, out of 800 applications, 580 have already been processed.

The Ministry and the Union Platforms have agreed to regularly evaluate the implementation of the Agreement to ensure compliance with all commitments aimed at transforming the education system and improving the quality of teaching.
