Haiti - Reconstruction : Water for 650 inhabitants of Léogâne

The Korean military Engineering Contingent (ROKENGCOY) of the United Nations Mission for Stabilization in Haiti (Minustah) has completed he construction of a well in the EDH neighborhood of Léogâne, Department of the West. This well can provide up to 500,000 liters of drinking water to the 650 inhabitants of the area, before, people used the river water for their daily consumption and domestic use.

The drilling of this well took ten days of work. These are the local authorities, in order to reduce the risk of diseases related to consumption of unsafe water, who asked the Minustah to put at contribution the drilling unit of the Korean battalion (ROKENGCOY) posted in Léogâne.

In addition of this drilling, 231 Korean peacekeepers, currently doing work of gabionade and cleaning of the rivers Rouyonne and Momance to Petit Goâve as well as repair works of roads to Darbon (Léogane) and in Les Cayes.

As part of the application of the Resolution 1927 of the Security Council (June 2010), the some 1,260 members of military Engineering Contingent, Brazil (BRAENGCOY), Korea (ROKENGCOY), Chile, Ecuador (CHICUENGCOY), Japan (JAPENGCOY), Paraguay (PARENGCOY) of the Minustah conduct across the country various infrastructure projects in support to the Government of Haiti.
