Haiti - FLASH : The Minister of Defense provides an update on the FAd’H

As part of the 10th edition of "Tuesdays of the Nation", Defense Minister Jean-Michel Moïse presented the strategic role of the Haitian Armed Forces (FAd'H) in combating insecurity and securing sensitive sites across the country.

The Minister also gave a brief account of his recent participation in a symposium held last week in Washington, D.C., bringing together several member states of the Organization of American States (OAS). During this symposium, he highlighted the current limitations of the FAd'H and the Haitian National Police (PNH) in the face of the continuing deterioration of the security situation. He therefore requested international support while emphasizing the importance of strengthened regional cooperation.

Minister Moïse announced that Mexico had responded favorably to Haiti's appeal by committing to train 700 new soldiers, in groups of 150, to address the current inoperability of the Gressier training center. This collaboration aims to strengthen the operational and technological capabilities of the Haitian Armed Forces (FAd'H).

Colombia and other countries are also in discussions to establish future cooperation within the framework of strengthening security. A program to build new military bases is underway, and massive investments in defense infrastructure are planned.

The revised budget for the current year provides 7.4 billion gourdes for the army https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-44578-haiti-flash-billions-of-gourdes-allocated-for-the-pnh-and-the-fad-h.html , with a significant increase announced for the next fiscal year. As part of the fight against gangs, the Haitian Armed Forces (FAd'H) are already engaged in operations to secure several strategic sites, such as the Superior Court of Auditors, the Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH), the international airport, ports, as well as telecommunications and energy infrastructure. Minister Moïse concluded by highlighting the ongoing efforts to strengthen the army and sustainably stabilize the country.
