Haiti - Culture : When Egypt reaches out to Haiti

On Saturday, June 21, 2025, "as our country plunges into one of the most serious crises in its history, marked by the collapse of institutions, armed violence, and the endangerment of our cultural heritage, Haiti received a visit that goes beyond ordinary diplomatic protocols," the Ministry of Culture wrote in a note. "The former Egyptian Minister of Culture, Dr. Kaled El Enany, a prominent figure in the Arab world, visited Haiti. He did not come to solicit votes or propose a deal. He came simply, profoundly, and humanly to offer us his support."

His message, imbued with a rare humanism in these times of identity withdrawal and international silence in the face of our suffering, touched us "to the depths of our being." He did not content himself with conventional speeches : he saw, he listened, he understood. He recognized in us, beyond the chaos, "a Nation bearing memory, culture, and resistance."

This outstretched hand, from another land of ancient civilizations, reminds us that heritage, beyond stone, words, and song, is an "act of faith in humanity." Like Egypt, Haiti bears an immense legacy : cities of stone, languages of fire, ancestral music, but also a constant struggle for "the survival of the spirit in the face of the violence of the world."

Today, while Haitian heritage is threatened, historic sites looted, museums deserted, cultural practices demonized or exploited, this gesture from elsewhere gives us renewed hope and inspiration. It reminds us that "culture is resistance, that memory is a territory that no gang can annex."

Amid the sometimes deafening silence of chancelleries, amid the neglect we often experience, this visit from a man of culture, a brother from Egypt, is a "political act in the noblest sense of the term" : the one that reconnects peoples through respect, memory, and dignity.

At a time when destruction is taking place, how good it is to see a man come to "build, transmit, and affirm our value." This gesture must not remain isolated. It must serve as an example to those around the world who still believe that "a people's heritage is the foundation of its recovery."

Thank you, Minister, for this breath of fresh air that has come from the Nile to our hills. Through you, "ancient Egypt and eternal Haiti have entered into a dialogue," and neither time nor crisis can erase this.
