Haiti - FLASH : 4.2 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Tortuga Island

This Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 9:20:24 a.m., an earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale was recorded offshore, 14 km west of Tortuga Island (Île de la Tortue) (Northwest Dept.).

The epicenter was located at 20.06°N latitude and 73.10°W longitude, 14 km west of Tortue Island (Northwest Dept.), 24 km northeast of Jean-Rabel (Northwest Dept.), and 104 km northwest of Cap-Haitien (North Dept.), at a depth of 3 km.

Also to be noted this Saturday, a weak earthquake of 3.8 on the Richter scale was recorded earlier at 7:29:36 a.m. 7 km southeast of Léogâne (West Department) at a depth of 9 km.

No loss of life or damage has been reported so far by the Civil Protection (DPC) in connection with these tremors. "No damage reported so far !" the DPC stated.
