Laurent Saint Cyr, President Pro Tempore and Coordinator of the Transition Council, on an official mission to Japan, met with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.

The two leaders discussed the current economic situation and various issues of mutual interest. For his part, Prime Minister Ishiba renewed Japan's commitment to supporting Haiti, as it has done for the past fifty years, particularly after the earthquake of January 12, 2010, and through funding for the Multinational Security Support Mission. Ishiba expressed interest in strengthening Haiti's military and reaffirmed his country's determination to continue supporting Haiti in its quest for stability, peace, and security.

The President of the Presidential Transitional Council, Laurent Saint-Cyr, reiterated the commitment of the Transitional Council and the Haitian Government to restore security, with the support of its international partners, with a view to holding elections as soon as possible.

Furthermore, on October 8, 2025, Laurent Saint-Cyr was received in audience by His Highness Emperor Naruhito at the Tokyo Imperial Palace.

This meeting, marked by respect and cordiality, focused on issues of mutual interest and served as an opportunity to reaffirm the bonds of friendship and cooperation that unite Haiti and Japan.
