Haiti - NOTICE : Severe electricity rationing in Port-au-Prince…

The Communications Department of Électricité d’Haïti (EDH) informs the general public, and its customers in the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area in particular, that the severe power outages currently affecting electricity distribution are largely due to the unscheduled shutdown of the Péligre Hydroelectric Plant, followed by the sabotage of five (5) pylons on the 115 kV high-voltage transmission line on June 17th. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-44914-haiti-flash-general-blackout.html

Furthermore, EDH reports that four substations have been vandalized and looted by bandits, rendering them completely inoperable.

In addition to these unforeseen circumstances, the E-Power company, facing serious technical difficulties, is only able to supply one-third of its production capacity, less than 10 megawatts.

All these unforeseen events require major repairs, a large-scale logistical mobilization, and time to find appropriate solutions and alternatives.

EDH informs its customers that the drastic and meager power supply to certain areas of the Port-au-Prince metropolitan region is due to grid instability since the forced closure of the Péligre power plant and the inability of the E-power generators, which are too small to normally withstand system fluctuations.

In fact, while working tirelessly to restore normal service as quickly as possible, EDH continues to supply its customers based on current production capacity.

The General Directorate, while apologizing for this unforeseen but difficult situation, reiterates its appeal for calm, restraint, understanding, and patience from its customers and the general public until the normal resumption of electricity distribution throughout the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area.
