Haiti - Culture : Towards strengthening Haiti's cultural influence in Spain

On Wednesday, January 7, 2026, Wooldy Edson Louido, the Ambassador of Haiti to the Kingdom of Spain, participated in a working session with Manuel Segade, Director of the Reina Sofía National Art Center.

Discussions focused on promoting Haitian art, increasing the visibility of Haitian artists on the Spanish art scene, and exploring scholarships for Haitian students pursuing a Master's degree in Contemporary Art History and Visual Culture.

Both parties agreed to continue cultural cooperation between the Reina Sofía Museum and Haitian institutions, particularly the Ministry of Culture, to strengthen cultural and artistic exchanges between Haiti and Spain.

On Thursday, January 8, as part of his efforts to promote Haitian culture in Spain, Ambassador Louido met in Madrid with Valerio Rocco Lozano, Director of the Cercle des Beaux-Arts.

They discussed new avenues of collaboration regarding Haiti's presence in Spanish cultural and intellectual spaces, particularly through initiatives combining artistic creation, academic reflection, and the dissemination of knowledge.

Special attention was given to training opportunities for Haitian students, as well as the integration of Haitian themes into the cultural and scientific programming of the Cercle des Beaux-Arts (Fine Arts Circle) for 2026.

Following their discussions, the two men reaffirmed their commitment to pursuing dynamic cooperation to foster a greater understanding of Haiti in Spain.
