Marco Rubio and Fils-Aimé spoke

On Friday, January 23, 2026, Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with Prime Minister Alix Fils-Aimé to reaffirm the United States' support for Haiti's stability and security. Rubio emphasized the importance of Fils-Aimé remaining as Prime Minister to combat terrorist groups and stabilize the country. Rubio added that the Presidential Transitional Council must be dissolved on February 7, without corrupt actors attempting to obstruct Haiti's transition to an elected government for their own gain. He reiterated that the United States will ensure that corrupt politicians who support terrorist groups and sow terror in Haiti face the consequences.

A new growing cycle begins

January 2026 marks the start of a new year and a new growing cycle for farmers participating in the National Rice Seed Production Strengthening Project (REPONSE) in the Artibonite department. The project was signed in August 2024 with Taiwan (Republic of China) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-43074-haiti-agriculture-signing-of-an-agreement-with-taiwan-to-improve-rice-production-in-the-country.html Thanks to the quality rice seeds provided by the project, farmers have begun planting in nurseries and are carefully monitoring the seedlings, including providing adequate irrigation. Once the seedlings are sufficiently developed, they will be transplanted into the fields to prepare for a promising harvest.

FIFA World Cup 2026

As part of their preparation for the upcoming World Cup, our Grenadiers will play two important matches to get into shape before the competition. Saturday, March 28th at 8:00 PM against Tunisia, and Tuesday, March 31st at 12:30 PM against Iceland. These two matches will allow the Grenadiers to begin their preparations to defend their qualification in the world's biggest football competition.

Health : Collaboration with Mexico

Dr. Sinal Bertrand, Minister of Public Health, met with the Mexican Ambassador to Haiti, José Jesús Cisneros Chávez, for a working session. The purpose of this visit was to consolidate and deepen collaboration between the two nations in the field of health. The fruitful discussions focused on priority strategic areas: strengthening skills through continuing education and the awarding of specialized scholarships in Mexico for Haitian professionals; Operational support, including technical assistance and the establishment of direct partnerships between health institutions, and improved resilience to crises through the strengthening of joint capacities for responding to health and humanitarian emergencies.

International Day for the Right to Education

In the lead-up to International Day for the Right to Education, celebrated on January 24, the Office of Citizen Protection (OPC) organized a discussion at the Horatius Laventure High School earlier this week. The event brought together 304 students in grades 9 and 12. Several themes were addressed, including the right to education for all, equal opportunities, student responsibility in their academic journey, and the role of education in building a more just and inclusive society. The speakers emphasized that education is an essential tool in the fight against exclusion, poverty, and ignorance.
