Handover Ceremony to the Prime Minister

This Saturday, February 7, 2024, marking the end of the term of the members of the Presidential Transitional Council (CPT), the handover ceremony to Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé will take place around 10:00 a.m. at the Villa d’Accueil. The Haitian National Police (PNH) has deployed a significant security presence in the capital, particularly around the Villa d’Accueil. Three recently donated armored battle tanks from South Korea (https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-46799-haiti-security-big-firepower-of-tanks-donated-by-south-korea.html) have been deployed in response to the risk of a coup or reprisals from armed gangs.

Power will be exercised by the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers

Due to a lack of consensus, starting this Saturday, February 7, 2026, power will be exercised by the Council of Ministers, chaired by Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé. This was announced by the CARICOM Group of Eminent Persons following a meeting held Thursday with Haitian political actors, with the aim of reaching an agreement on a governance model beyond the February 7 deadline. However, no agreement was reached at the conclusion of the discussions.

FAd’H : 341 New Soldiers

Jean-Michel Moïse, the Minister of Defense, signed the appointment notices for 341 new soldiers, marking an important and ongoing step in strengthening the operational capabilities of our armed forces.

DCPJ : Multiple Wanted Notices

Wanted notices have been issued for the mayor of Port-au-Prince, Ralph Youri Chevry, the former deputy for Delmas/Tabarre, Arnel Bélizaire, and Smith Joseph, an associate of outgoing presidential advisor Fritz Alphonse Jean. The Central Directorate of the Judicial Police (DCPJ) accuses them of financing terrorism, criminal conspiracy, and plotting against state security. The former Director General of Customs, Julcène Édouard, is also among those wanted.

More than 11,000 rounds of ammunition seized by customs

During January 2026, agents from the General Customs Administration's Surveillance Directorate seized 14 weapons, including two AR-15 assault rifles, more than 11,000 rounds of ammunition, 7 professional drones, 331 tactical uniforms, and 6 communication radios.
