Haiti - Leisure : Did you know ?

Quiz.HaitiLibre, launches a series of short general knowledge articles entitled "Did you know ?". Today we introduce you to Bhutan, a small kingdom of around 800,000 inhabitants, nestled in the Himalayas, nicknamed the “Kingdom of Happiness”

Did you know that Bhutan, a small kingdom nestled in the Himalayas, attracted worldwide attention by establishing Gross National Happiness (GNH) as its official development philosophy in the 1970s.

Initiated by the fourth king, this concept is based on the idea that a nation's progress should not be measured solely by economic growth, but by the holistic well-being of its citizens. The GNH is structured around four main pillars :

1- Sustainable and equitable socio-economic development

2- Preservation and promotion of culture,

3- Environmental conservation

4- Good governance.

This model influences all political decisions in the country, for example limiting mass tourism to protect traditions and requiring the maintenance of at least 60% forest cover. Although complex to quantify, GNH offers a humanist alternative to materialism, placing harmony between man, nature and spirituality at the center of the State.

Vajrayana Buddhism is the state religion and profoundly influences daily life. Dzongkha is the official language.
