On Wednesday, March 4th, 2026, at the Villa d’Accueil, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé officially installed Mario Andrésol as Minister of Defense.

Before installing the new Minister, the Prime Minister commended the work and commitment of the outgoing Minister, Jean-Michel Moïse. He noted that, since the end of 2024, the latter had "laid the groundwork for an essential overhaul." Under his leadership, the national defense policy began to "reassert itself" notably through the signing of strategic partnerships with friendly countries for the training of new recruits to the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAd’H). "Mr. Minister, the Nation thanks you for your service."

In installing Mario Andresol, the Prime Minister emphasized that this was not "a simple change of personnel" stressing that this appointment reflects the continuity of the State's actions and the Government's commitment to pursuing the development, professionalization, and modernization of the Haitian military. He expressed his confidence in the experience and expertise of the new Minister of Defense to successfully carry out this mission.

The new Minister is not unknown to the Haitian people. A former Director General of the Haitian National Police (PNH) and former Secretary of State for Public Security, Andresol is known as "the architect of profound reforms." The Prime Minister emphasized the unique nature of his career : "You know what fighting insecurity means. You know the price in blood shed by our law enforcement."

Taking the floor in turn, Mario Andrésol reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing the reforms already underway and to working tirelessly to strengthen the organizational and operational capacities of the Armed Forces of Haiti, so that they can fully contribute to national security and the country’s development process.

Addressing the regional and international context, marked by the rise of multidimensional threats, including transnational crimes, piracy, cyberattacks, and illicit trafficking, Andrésol emphasized the urgent need to rethink and strengthen the national defense system around two complementary pillars: national security and human security.

In this regard, he pledged to implement the necessary actions to enable the military institution to fully fulfill its mission of defending the national territory. He also reiterated the essential role of the Armed Forces of Haiti in supporting the population during natural disasters, announcing that particular attention will be paid to strengthening the capabilities of the FAd'H Engineering Corps Unit.
