Haiti - FLASH : 5 departments on Yellow Alert

The Far North (Artibonite, North, Northeast, Northwest) and Far South (South, Grand'Anse, Nippes), as well as some areas of the West and Central departments, are under threat of heavy rain and thunderstorms late this evening and into tomorrow morning due to a cold front stationed over Cuba.

This rainfall could cause flash floods and landslides.

Therefore, the Haitian Hydrometeorological Unit (UHM), in collaboration with the General Directorate of Civil Protection (DPC), is maintaining a yellow alert for heavy rain in the North, Northeast, Northwest, Grand'Anse, and South departments.

Here are some instructions to follow :

- Preventive evacuation : If you live by the sea, near a ravine, or in a flood-prone area, make arrangements to go to a safe place (to a relative's or neighbor's house).

- Flood warnings : Never cross a swollen river, whether on foot, by bicycle, on horseback, or by car.

- Protect your documents : Store your belongings and important documents safely away from water in a secure location.

- Stay informed : Keep a close eye on weather forecasts and strictly follow the instructions of the authorities.
