Personalities : End of Military Protection

In a Memorandum published Monday, March 23, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAd'H) granted its military personnel engaged in escort or guard missions for VIPs 72 hours to return to their regular duties for new national defense missions. This memorandum concerns 81 military personnel assigned to the protection of members of the former Presidential Transitional Council, the President and judges of the Court of Cassation; former and current ministers; the President and members of the Permanent Electoral Council (CEP); former and current Directors General; and other individuals currently benefiting from military detachment.

German woman to head BANUH

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has appointed German national Daniela Kroslak as Deputy Secretary-General and head of the newly created UN Support Office in Haiti (BANUH), tasked with providing technical and logistical support to the Gang Repression Force, the Haitian National Police (PNH), and the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAd'H).

CODEVI President advocates for expanding product offerings Businessman Fernando Capellan, President of CODEVI, located in the Ounaminthe free trade zone, received a visit from the US ambassadors. From the two nations of the island, Henry P. Wooster (Haiti) and Leah Campos (Dominican Republic), he advocated for a permanent renewal of the HOPE/HELP Act, similar to those in Egypt and Jordan. He also discussed at length the possibility of extending this agreement beyond textiles to include the manufacture of shoes, toys, electronic components, solar panels, and more.

The CEP's Mandate Modified

On Friday, March 20, 2026, the executive branch adopted a decree in the Council of Ministers modifying the mandate of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP). This decree requires the CEP to implement Articles 12 and 14 of the National Pact for Stability and the Organization of Elections (https://www.haitilibre.com/docs/pacte-national-pour-stabilite-et-organisation-elections.pdf). These articles provide for limited amendments to the fundamental law (Constitution), subject to popular ratification (referendum) during the First round of elections. This change in mandate could entail a revision of the electoral calendar, the electoral decree, and the operations budget. To be continued.

250 Kenyans left Haiti

On Monday, March 23, 2026, a group of 250 Kenyans from the Gang Repression Force (FRG) left Haiti to return to Nairobi. The first new FRG contingent is expected in early April and should reach 5,500 troops by October 2026. At present, there is no official confirmation of the number of troops from the continent or the name of the contributing country.
