Tuesday, April 7, 2026, commemoration of the 223rd anniversary of the death of Toussaint Louverture, the precursor of Haitian independence, who died on April 7, 1803, at Fort de Joux (Doubs, Savoie, France). Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, in the presence of members of his government and the Secretary General of the Presidency, Marie Elisabeth Régine Joseph Haddad, solemnly laid a wreath at the foot of the monument dedicated to Toussaint Louverture in the heart of the Champ de Mars.

On the occasion of the dual commemoration of the 223rd anniversary of the death of Toussaint Louverture, the precursor of independence, and the 43rd anniversary of the founding of the Museum of the Haitian National Pantheon (MUPANAH), the Prime Minister delivered a message of profound historical and political significance : "Haiti is not an accident of history; it is a founding act born of the courage, resistance, and quest for dignity of a people determined to break the chains of slavery.” He also emphasized that Toussaint Louverture’s legacy remains a source of inspiration for present and future generations, calling for national unity, collective responsibility, and the reconstruction of the country based on the values ​​of freedom, justice, and sovereignty.

In his speech, the Prime Minister stressed that this day transcended mere commemoration, representing an act of fidelity and responsibility toward history : 'It is not simply a matter of honoring, but of renewing a vow.'"
