The UN acknowledges the efforts of the PNH in Haiti

The Haitian National Police (PNH) notes with satisfaction the publication of the latest United Nations report on the security situation in Haiti. The police force welcomes the assessments made in this document, which highlight the operational efforts undertaken on the ground and the progress achieved, despite a complex security environment that necessitates the continuation and strengthening of ongoing actions.

The PNH is particularly pleased with the international recognition given to the work accomplished by its specialized units and all its personnel. This recognition contributes to a better understanding, by international partners, of the daily operational realities and the major challenges facing the institution. These tangible results are a direct outcome of the strategic vision and unwavering support of the Haitian Government, whose firm commitment to national security enables the Police to have the necessary resources to strengthen its presence throughout the country.

The Haitian National Police (PNH) has also strengthened its fight against internal corruption, kidnapping, and smuggling, leading to seizures of weapons and ammunition in northern ports and at the borders, in strict compliance with human rights.

A UN report from early 2026 (BINUH/OHCHR) notes operational progress against gangs in Haiti, including intensified anti-gang operations that have recaptured territory in the capital. While the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) highlights a more visible police presence, the report nevertheless states that this progress is reversible without sustained international support and strong political will.

The report notes increased pressure forcing criminal adaptations, although the security situation remains critical. Security forces (PNH, FAd’H, the Gang Repression Force (FRG), and Vectus Global (an American private security company founded by Erik Prince – formerly of Blackwater)) have retaken some territory, but gangs still control strategic routes.

The report notes the intensification of operations against gangs, which has led to "glimmers of hope" in certain areas. The gangs are under pressure, but are adapting their methods (extortion, kidnappings) and extending their operations into rural areas (Artibonite, Central region). The gangs still control or influence maritime and road routes crucial to their arms trafficking and financing.

The PNH solemnly reaffirms its commitment to working with professionalism, dedication, and a strong sense of duty, solely for the benefit of the Haitian people and the peace of the nation.
