EU Support for 200 Farmers On the occasion of International Day of Agriculture and Labour, the European Union (EU) reaffirms its support for Haiti's economic recovery efforts : more than 200 farmers are receiving concrete support, including seed distribution, livestock support, infrastructure development, and the creation of hydro-agricultural systems. Funded by the European Union and the French Development Agency (AFD), and implemented by Expertise France, the program contributes to strengthening productive capacities, stabilizing livelihoods, and sustainably structuring agricultural sectors. Les Cayes : Agro-Gastronomic Fair The Agro-Gastronomic and Artisanal Fair, organized by the DDAS (Department of Social Action and Development) in the city of Cayes, kicked off on May 1st. The theme, Agricultural Production is the Cornerstone of the Food Security Battle, aimed to encourage local producers. The three-day event (May 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, 2026) was dedicated to promoting agricultural products and Haitian culinary and artisanal heritage. PNH : Kidnappers Killed The Haitian National Police (PNH) intercepted a vehicle they had been tailing, implicated in several kidnapping cases in the Pétion-Ville and Delmas areas. The vehicle was leaving the Saint-Joseph area when the police intercepted it. The kidnappers opened fire on the officers. During the exchange of fire, the kidnappers were fatally wounded. A search of the vehicle revealed and seized: 196 rounds of 5.56 caliber ammunition, 5 ballistic helmets, 5 full-body PNH (Haitian National Police) body armor suits, 1 pair of boots, and a flashing blue light. Progress in Financial Inclusion Financial inclusion is progressing in Haiti. While the banking system has fewer than 3 million accounts, digital financial services now have approximately 8 million subscribers. This development significantly expands access to financial services for a large segment of the population, particularly for those living in areas where access to traditional banking institutions remains limited. Reminder : Consulate General of Haiti in French Guiana, Passport and CIN The Consulate General of Haiti in French Guiana reminds Haitian citizens that since January 2026, a National Identification Card (CIN) is mandatory for passport applications. Therefore, any applicant with a pending application is asked to contact the Consular Post to have their file updated. To avoid overcrowding, the office is now only accepting those applying for a passport at the same time. Other applicants will be seen by appointment on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month, between 9:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. For May, please schedule an appointment for the 9th or 23rd.
