Seizure of Weapons and Ammunition

Weapons, ammunition, and other tactical equipment were seized by law enforcement in the Bel Air area, at the home of gang leader Jamley, as major police operations continue to dismantle the criminal bases of these terrorists.

Sunrise Airways Partnership with the MSPP

Dr. Bertrand Sinal, Minister of Public Health and Population (MSPP), signed a partnership agreement with Sunrise Airways to ensure the free transport of biological specimens and blood bags across the country. This agreement aims to: Increase blood availability in healthcare facilities nationwide; Reduce blood bag transport times between departments; and Improve the management of medical and obstetric emergencies. Contributing to saving more lives through improved transfusion logistics and leveraging Sunrise Airways' air network to support the Haitian healthcare system.

Jimaní Border Wall

Carlos Fernández Onofre, the Dominican Minister of Defense, announced that the bidding process for the construction of the remaining 13 kilometers of the border wall in the Jimaní region will begin in the coming days. It should be noted that the border wall, the first phase of which is already well underway, was designed as a comprehensive security infrastructure including technological surveillance, military patrols, and checkpoints, without hindering binational trade

Minimum Wage : Fernando Capellan Warns

On Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at a press conference regarding the adjustment of the minimum wage following the publication of the decree in the official gazette, Le Moniteur, dated May 6, 2026 (https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-47534-flash-new-minimum-wages-in-haiti-for-all-sectors-of-activity-official-2026.html), Fernando Capellan, President of the Industrial Development Company (CODEVI), located in the Ouanaminthe free trade zone in Haiti, announced an increase of approximately 45.99% in the minimum wage (1,000 gourdes per 8-hour workday for export-oriented assembly industries). He believes the industry is capable of adapting. However, he warned that if a production wage of 1,300 gourdes were imposed in the textile sector, Haiti would become one of the countries in the region with the highest labor costs in the garment industry, severely impacting its competitiveness and potentially leading to further factory closures and job losses.

Launch of the National Eco-Engineering Competition

The Ministry of the Environment, in partnership with the Ministry of National Education, officially launched the 4th edition of the National Eco-Engineering Competition on Thursday, May 28, 2025, with technical and financial support from UNESCO, Helvetas Haiti, Heifer International, and the Resilient Productive Territories (RPT) Project. Through this competition, thousands of students from eight school districts will be engaged in discussions about environmental protection, waste management, the preservation of natural resources, and the adoption of eco-responsible behaviors.
