Haiti - Preschool to Secondary : Minimum number of school days and annual hourly workload. 22/06/2026 08:33:31
Vijonet Déméro, the Minister of National Education, in order to guarantee fairness, quality of learning, and the success of every student throughout the country, reiterates in a circular the obligation to respect a minimum number of teaching and learning days and an annual teaching load. Article 1 : National Standards for School Time All school administrators are required to strictly adhere to the following mandatory national standards for their educational organization : Preschool Education : Number of week : 36 Number of school days : 180 days Number of hours per week : 24 hours Annual teaching hours : 864 hours Primary Education (Cycles 1 and 2) : Number of weeks : 36 Number of school days : 180 days Number of hours per week : 25 hours Annual teaching hours : 900 hours Primary Education (Cycles 3) : Number of week s: 36 Number of school days : 180 days Number of hours per wee k: 30 hours Annual teaching hours : 1,080 hours h Secondary Education : Number of weeks : 36 Number of school days : 180 days Number of hours per week : 30 hours Annual teaching load : 1,080 hours Article 2 : School Day By "school days" the Ministry means exclusively those days actually devoted to teaching and learning activities, assessment, and direct pedagogical support for students. Article 3 : Implementation and Responsibility Planning and Calendar : The national school calendar, published annually by the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP), is structured based on these quotas. Schools must adhere to it without exception. Educational Remediation Measures: In the event of an exceptional or forced interruption of school activities (inclement weather, socio-political unrest, etc...), school administrations are obligated to implement immediate remedial measures. These contingency plans must be validated by their respective Departmental Directorates of Education (DDEs) to guarantee the annual quota of teaching hours. Monitoring and follow-up : The Departmental Directorates of Education (DDEs) are responsible for ensuring rigorous and regular monitoring of compliance with these teaching hours in public and private schools. Article 4 : Transitional provisions The General Directorate of the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP) and the relevant technical directorates will ensure the proper dissemination and strict application of these instructions, which take effect immediately upon publication of this circular.
