Haiti : A high-level American parliamentary delegation at the National Palace

Yesterday Monday, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, accompanied by members of the Government, received at the National Palace, a large delegation from the Foreign Affairs Committee of the United States House of Representatives, made up of members of Congress as well as senior Democratic and Republican parliamentary officials.

They held discussions, marked by frankness, mutual respect and a spirit of partnership, on Haiti's strategic priorities, in particular the restoration of security, the organization of elections, the strengthening of democratic institutions, governance, bilateral cooperation, migration issues, as well as the prospects for a sustainable economic recovery.

The Government took the opportunity to call for a coherent international commitment, based on respect for national sovereignty, solidarity between partners so that Haiti can face the challenges of the day, also calling for support for the efforts led by the Haitian authorities to restore stability, consolidate the rule of law and create the conditions for free, credible and inclusive elections.

For its part, the American delegation praised the quality of the dialogue engaged and reiterated the bipartisan interest of the United States Congress in pursuing a close partnership with Haiti, in order to support security, democratic governance, economic prosperity and the well-being of the Haitian people.
