Haiti - Grand North : Second phase of the National Conference of Religious Leaders 08/08/2026 09:46:28
On Friday, August 7, 2026, Raina Forbin, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Religious Affairs, opened the second phase of the National Conference of Religious Leaders for Peace, Stability, and Civic Engagement in the Grand North at Villa Caracol. More than one hundred representatives of various religious denominations in the Grand North, as well as representatives of public institutions, participated in this day of discussions, which follows up on the National Conference of Religious Leaders held on May 28 and 29 in Port-au-Prince (https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-47637-national-conference-commitments-of-religious-leaders-joint-declaration.html). This Conference reflects the Government's commitment to strengthening dialogue with religious communities and involving them in key national priorities, particularly the restoration of security, peacebuilding, youth integration, and the strengthening of social cohesion. Participants will also discuss the electoral process and the role religious communities can play in ensuring the success of this crucial step for the country. During the opening ceremony, Minister Forbin called for a partnership based on trust, mutual respect, and shared responsibility between the State and religious communities. "Religious leaders, you are a force in the country! You have a responsibility to work hand in hand with the State. It is together, each in our respective roles and with due respect for our responsibilities, that we must work to restore security, consolidate peace, ensure the success of the upcoming elections, and put Haiti back on the path to lasting stability and development."
