Haiti - Environment : Training for the Citizen Environmental Initiatives Support Program

On Friday, August 7, 2026, as part of the Citizen Environmental Initiatives Support Program (PAIEC), the Ministry of the Environment, in collaboration with UNESCO, launched a first series of workshops simultaneously in the West, South, Grand'Anse, Artibonite, and North departments. For three days, participants received support in structuring their initiatives, with the aim of strengthening the technical capacities of initiative leaders to design, plan, and prepare environmental projects and green business concepts that comply with PAIEC requirements.

These training sessions are aimed at young people from Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), businesses, and organizations working in the field of environmental protection.

This activity is part of a national training and coaching program for 100 pre-selected environmental initiative leaders, representing nearly 300 beneficiaries from environmental organizations and young entrepreneurs across the country's ten departments.

On Sunday, August 9, Valéry Fils-Aimé, the Minister of the Environment, closed the training workshop held in the West Department. This phase follows a process that generated over 800 applications, 537 of which were deemed eligible, before the pre-selection of the 100 initiatives to be supported.

During the closing ceremony in the West Department, the Minister commended the commitment of the environmental organizations and young entrepreneurs and encouraged them to transform their ideas into structured, viable projects capable of providing concrete solutions to the environmental challenges facing their communities. He reiterated the importance, for the Government, of involving local stakeholders and youth in environmental protection, while also promoting innovation and green entrepreneurship.

The training sessions will continue on August 14, 15, and 16 in the five other departments. At the end of the sessions, participants will receive support in finalizing their proposals, which will then be evaluated for the final selection of initiatives that will receive funding from the PAIEC (Integrated Environmental and Climate Action Program).

Through this program, the Ministry of the Environment intends to support the emergence of local initiatives capable of contributing to environmental protection, the creation of economic opportunities, and the sustainable development of communities.
